Obituary of John Guthro
John R. “Jack” Guthro of Burlington died peacefully with his family at his side on October 1, 2015. Jack was born in Cambridge and raised in Brighton. He was the son of Canadian immigrants; the late Doris V. and Jerome D. Guthro.
Jack grew up in Cambridge and Brighton. He graduated from Brighton High School where he lettered in football and baseball. He attended Chamberlain College where he studied computer programming. He then joined the National Guard, Yankee Division, 101stArtillery Battalion where he rose to the rank of Sergeant. Jack then embarked on his business career in the office products field, building One Stop Business Centers, headquartered in Burlington, MA with his business partner, to a company of 125 employees at 4 locations throughout New England. He retired from One Stop in 2004. Jack was a lifelong sports fan, especially for all of the Boston sports teams, in good times and in bad. He was an ultimate optimist. Jack was happiest when he was with his family. He was a loving and supportive husband of 27 years to his wife Wendy. He supported and encouraged his children as they grew up and made their life decisions. He especially loved being a grandfather and great grandfather. During his retirement years, nothing got him more excited than a visit from one of his grandchildren or great grandchildren. Jack was a hardworking man, who proudly grew a successful business, and loved his family.
Jack was the beloved husband of Wendy (Wallis) Guthro, Esq. He was the loving father of John R. Guthro, Jr. & his wife Debra of Tucson, AZ and Karen Mosman & her husband Gregory of Brighton. He was the brother of Jerome “Jerry” & his wife Ann of Medway and Gloria Sjostedt of Sandwich. Jack was the proud grandfather of Jessica Abreu, Brittany Alstrom, Jack, Marion, and Gabriel Mosman and great grandfather of Carter & Juliana Alstrom and Alcino Abreu. Son-in-law of Beryle and the late William Wallis. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, brother and sister in-laws.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Wednesday October 7 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday from 2-4p.m. and 6-8:30pm. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Interment in Newton Cemetery, Newton.
