Obituary of John Giglio
John Francis Giglio, Jr. passed away peacefully after enjoying a beautiful 85th birthday celebration with all his family. John was born in Boston, the son of the late John & Louise (Caprigno) Giglio. He and his sister, Therese, grew up in the North End in a family steeped in Italian culture and values, such as family comes first, being a good provider, honor, and good food was a must. Starting at the age of 10, his parents sent John to Bethlehem, NH where he stayed for the summer earning his keep as a caddie at the Maplewood Country Club. His parents wanted him to appreciate the value of hard work as well as getting him some fresh air. John developed a love of golf and became a lifelong avid golfer. His favorite course was always Maplewood, where he played often with his family and friends. One of his favorite golfing moments was the “Hole-in-One” he got while golfing with his son, Stephen, at Maplewood.
John was a graduate of Boston English High School and he attended Boston College. He was committed to education and was so proud at having put his three sons through college. Professionally, John worked as a Computer Operations Manager for James Brudnick, Co., which was a Wholesale Drug Distributor in Malden.
John had a strong sense of loyalty and comradery with his family and friends. He and his wife, Marie, frequently enjoyed time with their large group of friends from their North End neighborhood. Over 60 years ago, 8 of “the guys” formed the “Tuesday Night Investment Club.” Although they did buy a few shares of stock over the years, its main purpose was to play cards weekly and to keep the friendship alive and thriving over the many years. As committed as he was to his friends, John was forever focused on his family. He adored and treasured his wife, Marie, who he called a special loving and endearing nickname – Mudiooch! When his family was young, they spent their summers together camping at the Streams of Living Water Campground in Twin Mountain, New Hampshire. They also skied as a family in the winter. As the grandchildren came along, Grampy and Nama upgraded from camping to having a town home at Bretton Woods where all of the family could be together to ski, golf, and hike. The holidays were always special in the Giglio family and were filled with Italian traditions and laughter. Food was a very important part of holidays and John’s daily life as well. He and Marie made homemade sausages and pasta together. He also had favorite restaurants, delis, bakeries, and markets depending on what particular item he was in search of. For John, it was worth the ride to get the best. John was a longtime faithful Patriots fan. He had season tickets during the Schaeffer Stadium years and everything stopped when the Patriots were playing. Tailgating was always a must. If not at the game, John would watch it at home. It was a hoot to watch with him as he passionately yelled at the television as if the coaches and players could hear him somehow. John also enjoyed traveling, winters in Florida, day trips to Foxwoods. He was always true to his beliefs and values and was an excellent role model for his sons and his grandchildren who all adore him. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
John was the loving husband of 59 years of Marie (DiMattia). He was the loving father of Stephen of Hollis, NH, Mark of Acton, and Dr. John (Jack) of Bedford and father-in-law of Sheila & Dawn. John was the proud grandfather of Benjamin, Amanda, Katherine, Christina, Patricia, Nicholas and Alexandra. He was also survived by his sister, Therese DiBlasi of Stoneham.
