Obituary of Daniel Fickett
Daniel W. Fickett, a Veteran of the United States Army World War II and Korea, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, October 22, 2015. The beloved husband of the late Ursule G. (Lachance) who passed away this past April, he was 87 years old.
Dan was born in Cambridge. He was the youngest child born to the late Webster and Alice Fickett. His parents passed away when he was a young child and he went to Maine to live with his older siblings and attend school. After high school Dan was drafted into the United States Army serving his country during World War II. He served from 1946 – 1948. He was the recipient of the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Dan did his second tour of Duty during the Korean War serving from 1952 – 1953 where he achieved the rank of 2nd LT. He continued his faithful service to his country with the reserves until 1964 where he achieved the rank of 1st LT.
Dan attended the University of Maine and then transferred to Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine where he received his Bachelor’s Degree. He went on to have a successful career as a Price Analyst working for NASA Space Center in Cambridge and then went on to work for the Department of Transportation in Cambridge for over 20 years.
Dan led a full and active life. Dan and Ursule had a wonderful life together. They settled in Burlington in 1966 where they raised their two children. They enjoyed an occasional trip to locations such as Florida, Montreal or a Cruise to the Caribbean. He was very involved in his son and daughter’s lives as children. When his son Chris was young he coached him in Little League. He had a very close relationship with his four grandchildren. He was blessed to be a part of their lives. He never missed an event in their lives whether it was a sporting event, first communion or graduation. Dan was looking forward to the birth of his first great grandchildren in December. Dan was the beloved husband of the late Ursule G. (Lachance) who passed away on April 20, 2015. Loving father of Christopher of Billerica and Kimberly McGonagle & her husband Kevin of Burlington. Proud Pepere of Noah & Heather Fickett and Chloe & Brady McGonagle. Brother of the late Deb Hagan, Margaret Emerson and George, Robert & Edgar Fickett.
Funeral Services will be private. Memorials in Dan’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
