Obituary of John Collins
John D. Collins, a developer of 12 Patents, passed away at the Winchester Nursing Center on Tuesday morning, October 27, 2015. The beloved husband of the late Claire (Wilson), he was 85 years old.
John was born and raised in Woburn. He was the son of the late William and Nora Collins. John was a graduate of Woburn High School Class of 1947. He was a veteran of World War II serving his country in the United States Army. After the war he went on to further his education attending Wentworth Institute and Fitchburg State College where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree. John went on to have a successful career as an Engineer at Raytheon for over 37 years. He was a talented man who developed and published 12 patents for which he received numerous awards for.
John and Claire would settle in Burlington in 1961 where they would raise their two sons and make many friends. He enjoyed boating, traveling and experiencing other cultures with his favorite destination being Denmark. John and Claire also visited other locations such as Aruba, Bermuda, Fort Myers, and Nova Scotia to name a few. They also enjoyed taking many cruises together. John was an avid reader and would read anything he could get his hands on from science to history and his favorite being British Crime Drama.
John’s son Daniel is paying tribute to his Dad and his courageous battle with cancer. John was the beloved husband of husband of the late Claire (Wilson). Loving father of Daniel of Mashpee and the late Michael. Brother of Ann Ginivan of Stoneham, Brenda Tedesco & her husband William of Woburn and the late Rosemary Stima, Robert and Gene Collins. Grandfather of Madison Vandewounde-Collins of Indian Trail, NC and Ashley & Taylor Sargent of NH. A visitation will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 30th from 8:30 am – 9:30 am Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Pine Haven Cemetery Burlington.
