Obituary of Rosemary Brophy
Rosemary A. Brophy, a woman of faith, passed away at the Winchester Nursing Home on Friday evening, December 4, 2015. She was 94 years old.
Rosemary was born in the family home in Woburn where she was raised and educated. She attended Fay Secretarial School in Boston and when on to have a successful career as an Administrative Assistant at Microwave Associates and Macom. Rosemary moved to Burlington in 1960 where she lived for 46 years. She was a longtime and active member of St. Malachy’s Church in Burlington. She was a Eucharistic Minister and attended the daily 9 am Mass faithfully. Rosemary also volunteered in many other aspects of the church including helping out in the office. St. Malachy’s Parish was an important part of her life and its members were like a second family to her.
Rosemary loved to knit. She originally took up knitting to pass the time on her train rides into Boston. She shared her passion of knitting with her friends at New Horizon’s in Woburn where she led a knitting club for many years. Rosemary traveled the world and had visited such locations as Japan, China, Australia, New Zealand, England, France and took many trips to her favorite destination Ireland. Rosemary’s nieces and nephews where a very important part of her life. She was included in all their milestones throughout their lives and saw their families grow with many grand nieces and nephews. In recent years Rosemary, or “Sis” as she was affectionately known by her close family and friends, was blessed to have her nieces and nephews help care for her and be there for her in her times of need.
Rosemary was the beloved daughter of the late Lawrence and Agnes Brophy. Loving sister of William Brophy of FL and the late John L. Brophy. Beloved Aunt of Judy Donaghey & her late husband William of Woburn, Fred & Connie Brophy of NY, Patricia & Leo Fitzgerald of Woburn, Larry & Ruth Brophy of Middleton, Susan & Joe Barrett of West Dennis, Mark Clark of Woburn, Joanne Brophy of FL and Lawrence & Catherine Brophy of NH. Godmother of Elaine Lekas & her husband Billy of Tyngsboro and Nancy Bennett of TX. Great aunt of the late Brian Fitzgerald. Dear friend of Helen & Bill Megow and their family of Burlington. Rosemary is also survived by 12 grand nieces and nephews & 7 great grand nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Charles Church 280 Main St., Woburn on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. A visitation will be held in St. Charles Church from 9 – 9:45 a.m. prior to the Mass. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials in Rosemary’s name may be made to the Perkins School for the Blind, 175 North Beacon St., Watertown, MA 02472
