Obituary of Thomas Icovitti

Thomas S Icovitti, formerly of Somerville, passed away at the Vitas Hospice Center of North Broward Hospital on December 17th, 2015. The husband of 38 years of Sharon (Donovan) he was 59 years old. Tom was born and raised on Berkley St in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School in 1973. After high school, Tom began work in the warehouse of a wholesale distributor. He quickly worked his way up, obtaining increasing levels of responsibility, until becoming the Executive Director of Operations at a large pharmaceutical wholesaler. Tom married his wife Sharon in 1977 and they bought a home in Billerica before escaping the cold and moving to Florida in 1987 with their daughter Nicole. They were joined ten years later by the birth of their second daughter Erica in 1997. A lifelong fan of muscle cars and drag racing, Tom attended the Gator Nationals in Florida with brothers and friends, in what became an annual tradition. His love for cars was happily shared with his two girls, as they attended any and every car show or drag event he came across. Enthusiastically sharing his knowledge through lessons in car makes and models interjected into every movie, television show, or trip to the store they shared. A devoted husband, Tom enjoyed nothing as much as sitting on the back porch in the beautiful Florida evenings having a glass of wine with Sharon, while sharing old stories and each other’s company. Throughout his life, Tom was loved by so many of the people that have met him. Throughout his battle with cancer, nurses, doctors, and hospice aides looked forward to their appointments with him. As his wife and daughters took over errands for him, well wishes were sent from dry cleaners, pharmacists, neighbors, and those at the local grocery store. Each person sharing how special he was to them and how much they enjoyed their conversations with him. It was his love of people, family, and friends that grew a plan for a small Fourth of July cookout into a legendary bocce tournament. With fortunes won or lost, yards ruined to create the perfect court, and ridicule lasting for years. Heading to York, Maine every summer, where so many memories have been made over the years, and manning the grill for 90 or so of his closest friends and family, and biggest bocce rivals, became an event to be looked forward to for months and then talked about for years. Tom will be remembered and missed by so many that knew him with a smile and, more than likely, a laugh for many years to come. He will remain, always and forever, in our hearts. Tom was the beloved husband of 38 years of Sharon (Donovan). Loving father of Nicole of Orlando, FL and Erica of Coral Springs, FL. Son of the late Valentino and Helen. Brother of the late Paul & his wife Barbara of York, ME, Jo Ann of Somerville and the late Edward. Uncle of Kim and Joe Icovitti and Kerri Icovitti Neel.
