Obituary of Jane Callahan
Jane M. (O’Neil) Callahan, a retired Everett High School Teacher, passed away peacefully at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center on Monday, December 21, 2015. The beloved wife of the late Thomas L. Callahan, Jr. who passed away in 2012, she was 77 years old.
Jane was born, raised and educated in Woburn. She was one of three children born to the late John and Margaret O’Neil. Jane was a graduate of Woburn High School where she was the Captain of the Woburn High School Girls Basketball team. Jane went on to graduate from Boston University and received her Master’s Degree from Northeastern University. After graduation from BU, Jane and her friends traveled across Europe. It was an experience she would never forget. She was a Teacher at Everett High School for 38 years with her specialty being business subjects such as accounting and typing.
Jane and Tom married in 1968 and settled in Burlington where they raised their son Tom. Jane was very involved in her son’s life growing up. She was a “sports mom” and was always on the side lines of his baseball, hockey, soccer or basketball games. Cape Cod was one of Jane’s favorite destinations. As a family they would celebrate Easter at the Cape and summer vacations were spent renting a cottage in Dennisport. Jane loved hosting holiday gatherings with her favorite being Christmas Eve which she hosted for over 30 years. Jane’s most treasured role in life was being “Grammy” to her three granddaughters that she truly adored.
Jane was the beloved wife of the late Thomas L. Callahan, Jr. She was the loving mother of Thomas L. III & his wife Jennifer of Amherst, NH. Sister of John T. O’Neil of Woburn and the late Elizabeth Lanigan. Proud grandmother of Molly Ann, Grace Patton & Abigail Rose.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Monday, Dec. 28 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Sunday 3-6 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. Memorial’s in Jane’s name may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, MA Chapter, 480 Pleasant St. Watertown, MA 02472.
