Obituary of Regina Short

Regina Eva Short passed away peacefully at the age of 102. Regina was born in Laconia, NH. She was one of 8 children born to Charles and Mary (Gingrass) Landry. She grew up and was educated in Laconia, NH. She met her husband Thomas when she was working in Watertown Mass. They married in October of 1940. After Pearl Harbor and the United States entrance into World War II, Tom enlisted in the Navy to serve his country. Regina, still a newlywed would spend the war anxiously awaiting to hear from Tom and that he was safe. Upon Tom’s return from the war, Regina and Tom moved to Burlington in 1947. They purchased 6 acres of land, Tom was a carpenter and him and Regina would build their own home. Tom would become the Burlington’s animal officer and their home became a small farm complete with horses, chickens, geese, dogs, cats and a cow. It was truly country living, where her children could ride their horses around town, swim in the sand pits, which are now the location of the Burlington Mall, and tend to their animals. Regina cared for the children, helped with the animals, and embraced whatever her husband or children brought home. For 20 years, Regina sold Studio Girl Cosmetics. She was quite the salesperson and received many awards and incentives including vacations for her top sales. She then worked for over 15 years as the Assistant Town Clerk for Burlington. She wasn’t a great cook when she married, so she went to cooking school to learn and improve her skills. After years of practice, she became quite the chef. In addition to being a great cook, she loved tending to her rock gardening. She was a member of the Burlington Council on Aging and enjoyed their Thursday afternoon Bingo games. Her and Tom had a cottage in Plymouth for many years. She enjoyed being up to date in fashion and style and was always seen around town smartly dressed. She had made her home in Burlington for 69 years and saw the community grow from a small farming community to a thriving city. She considered herself blessed to have lived such a long life with such good health, family, friends and neighbors. Regina was the beloved wife of the late Thomas K. Short, Sr. She was the loving mother of Thomas K. Short, Jr. & his wife Marie of Townsend and Linda Short-Richards of Burlington and her late husband Parker Richards. She was the proud grandmother of Jessica Caissey & her husband Tyler of Leominster. She was predeceased by her siblings; Irene Higgins, Angelina Usseglio, Theresa Silvio, Gladys Stuhre, Ruth Coleman, Rita McDonald, and Esther Landry. A visitation will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Friday, September 9 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington
