Obituary of Melvin Friedman
Melvin Friedman, a resident of Burlington since 1960, passed away at his home in Burlington on Monday afternoon, February 20, 2017. The beloved husband of Emma (Servello) he was 90 years old.
Melvin was born in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of the late Harry and Minnie Friedman. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Army serving his country during World War II. Melvin was the recipient of the European African Middle East Service Medal, American Theater Service Medal, Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. At the age of 22 Melvin moved to Boston to start what would be a long, distinguished and successful career as an Electrical Engineer. His first job when moving to Boston was working at Raytheon. After a number years Melvin and a group of co-workers decided to start their own business with the manufacturing of solid state power supplies and they did this while working out of a garage. Melvin ultimately formed the company Hyperion Industries located in Watertown. Melvin was always looking for a new opportunity in the industry. He went on to create another company Titan Industries. Melvin loved his job as an Electrical Engineer and all the challenges and success stories that came with his jobs.
It was while working at Hyperion that Melvin would meet his future wife Emma. They were together for 50 years marring in Hawaii on New Year’s Eve. They had a wonderful life together. They loved to travel and visited Europe, Alaska and many other exciting destinations. Their favorite trip was to California to visit their daughter Mary and her family. Melvin will be remembered as kind, funny and loving man who was devoted to his wife Emma, his daughter Mary, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Melvin was the beloved husband of Emma (Servello). Loving father of Mary Dukehart & her husband Lee of CA. Proud grandfather of Terrence & Christopher Gauthier. Great Grandfather of Stephanie, Anthony, Danielle, Halley, Tyler, Emma and Chloe. Son of the late Harry & Minnie Friedman. Brother of the late Larry Friedman.
A visitation will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Friday, Feb. 24 from 5-7 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will be held in the Veterans Section of Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Bedford St., Burlington on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend.
