Obituary of William Patrick Morrissey

William Patrick Morrissey, a veteran of the Korean War, passed away at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford on Friday afternoon, September 1, 2017. The beloved husband of Barbara (Buchanan) he was 85 years old. Bill was born in Brighton and was raised and educated in the Oak Square Section of Brighton. He was the son of the late William and Catherine Morrissey. After high school Bill enlisted in the Marine Corps. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with 3 Stars, and the United Nations Service Medal. Bill’s service to his country was very important to him and throughout his life he was a dedicated and involved member of the Marine Corp League. Bill met his future wife Barbara Buchanan at a local Community Center where she was working. They married in 1962 and immediately moved to Burlington. Bill worked as a Machinist at Polaroid in Waltham for over 30 years. After his retirement he got a job as a “Door Man” at the Burlington Marriott. Bill loved his job there and was well respected by management and coworkers. His friendly and outgoing demeanor earned him many awards while working there one of which was the “Employee of the Year”. Bill and Barbara enjoyed traveling together and took many cruises to the Caribbean, Bermuda and Alaska. Bill enjoyed the holidays. He was known for decorating his home on Winn Street for each and every holiday. People loved to drive by Bill’s home and admire all the decorations. At Christmas Bill would dress up as “Santa” and visit children in the neighborhood, the local bowling alley and parties at Polaroid. Bill will be remembered as a man with great love for his family and his country. Bill was the beloved husband of Barbara (Buchanan). He was the loving and proud father of Bonnie Morrissey of Burlington and William Morrissey, III of Tewksbury. He was the brother of Virginia Morrissey of Burlington. Bill was the cousin of Martina O’Toole of Concord. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt., 128/95 Woburn side) on Monday, Sept 11 from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Interment will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave, Bourne.
