Obituary of Susan G. Poirier

Susan Poirier, retired General Manager of the Café Escadrille Restaurant in Burlington passed away after an extended illness on Thursday, January 4, 2018. She was 77 years old. Susan was born in Winchester, one of 10 children born to Thomas and Jessica Murray. She was a lifelong resident of Burlington. She was a graduate of St. Charles High School in 1959. Burlington being such a small town at the time, everyone knew Susan and her family whether it be from one of her 9 siblings, her father who was the Chief of Police and Highway Superintendent, or uncle who was one of the bigger real estate developers of the time. Susan worked at the local bakery, Cenci’s, and at Murray Hills Real Estate prior to starting at the Café Escadrille. The Café Escadrille became her second home. For decades, the restaurant has been the premier dining spot in the area thanks to Susan, and the fantastic staff that worked diligently to ensure their patrons were treated like royalty and the cuisine be top notch. She worked 12 hour days watching over the loyal clientele, seeing the expansion of the Gourmet room, outdoor patio, and function facility. For Susan it was more than a job, it was her way of life which she thrived on. In December of 2010, she received a Special Recognition Award by the Epicurean Club of Boston for her outstanding contribution to the restaurant industry and its patrons. In Susan’s limited leisure time, she found an oasis at Good Harbor Beach where she owned a second home. It was where her daughter and grandchildren spent their summers together. There was nothing that relaxed her more than sitting on her porch with a cocktail prepared by one of her guests whom she jokingly called “Her Cabana Boys”. She loved the ocean, the sounds of the surf, and that time spent with family and friends on the beach. Susan was the beloved wife of 60 years of Donald Poirier. She was the loving mother of Donna Connerty & her husband Christopher of Gloucester. She was the grandmother of Jessica & Lexi Johnson. She was the sister of Thomas Murray, Jr. of Burlington, Robert Murray of Burlington, Sheila Murphy of Burlington, Richard Murray of Burlington, Anne Murray of Burlington, Michael Murray of Burlington, Joseph Murray of Burlington, Daniel Murray of Woburn and the late Carol McDonough. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Wednesday Jan 10 from 5-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington on Thursday January 11 at 10 a.m. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend.
