Mrs. Lee moved to Massachusetts after she married her husband George and together raised their seven children. She had moved back to Maine five years ago to live with her son Herbert Merle was a remarkable woman. She raised 7 children; within in itself is a difficult task. After her husband died in 1971 she went on to purchase a new home for herself. She was a very strong and independent woman. She continued working and driving well into her 80’s. She had worked at Marshall’s in Stoneham. She loved that job. You could always find her at the back of the register. She was an excellent seamstress. Everyone in the family has at least 2- 3 quilts that are hand made. She will keep us warm forever. She was always busy doing something. She loved gardening. She always had African violets growing in her kitchen window. She seemed to have a special knack for those. You could always go to Merle’s house. She welcomed everyone. She especially loved her grandchildren. You could always count on a cup of tea and some cookies or maybe a light lunch, as she called it. Everyone loved that “White haired woman”, known as “Ma” or “Gram”. We will miss her very much. Rest in peace Gram…. Mrs. Lee is the beloved wife of the late George Lee.
