Obituary of Jean O'Toole
Jean Marie O’Toole, a retired supervisor at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center, passed away after a struggle with cancer on Tuesday morning, June 5, 2012. Jean was born in Boston and grew up in Dorchester. She married her husband Peter on May 26, 1962 and on Saturday celebrated their 50th anniversary.
They settled in Burlington in 1970 where they raised her 3 children, Brian, Kelley, and Keri. She had worked at the Value King Grocery Store in Burlington and the Fernald School in Waltham before taking a position at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington for the past 25 years. She was the supervisor at the General Internal Medicine until 3 years ago when she retired. She really missed serving the patients and working with the Lahey staff, so she went back to work part time. In her final days, her family was at her bedside and her coworkers lovingly cared to her needs.
Jean was an outgoing and loving person, who was committed to her family and friends. She was always on the go whether at home or at work. She was a devoted wife to husband Peter. She was supportive mother and caring Nana. She encouraged them in their sports, activities, careers, and life decisions. She was the Cheering Director for Burlington Pop Warner. She was an extremely proud grandmother who was the biggest fan at all their dance recitals, baseball, football, wrestling, and soccer games. Her grandchildren were shining stars in her eyes. Jean was a diehard shopper. Every Saturday was spent with her sister-in-law and dear friend Pat O’Toole. She was such a frequent customer at the Christmas Tree Shop, they included her in one of their television commercials. Jean leaves her family with lasting memories filled with laughter and love.
Jean was the beloved wife of Peter F. O’Toole of Burlington. She was the loving mother of Brian O’Toole, Kelley Pena & her husband Holvin, Keri Noke & her husband Kevin all of Burlington. She was loved by her family, Warren Walker, Evelyn Walker and Virginia Collins. Sister of Beverly Marklis of Billerica, Cheryl Phoenix of Stratham, NH, James Walker of Merrimack, NH, Billy Walker of Braintree, Carol McBride of Weymouth, and the late Warren Walker. She was the proud Nana of Delaney & Madison O’Toole, Khyle & Alyvia Pena, Aidan, Ronan & Jillian Noke. She was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Friday, June 8 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jean’s name may be made to the General Internal at the Lahey Clinic ((Staff Development), 41 Mall Road, Burlington, MA 01805.
