Obituary of George MacDonald
George C. MacDonald, a resident of Burlington since 1959, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center following a brief illness. The husband of Anna (Shelvey) for 51 years, he was 80 years old.
George was born, raised and educated in Malden. He was a graduate of Malden Catholic High School. He went on to further his education graduating from Boston University. George was very proud of his service to his country and was a veteran of the Korean War serving his country in the United States Navy where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant. He worked for over 20 years as a Marketing Manager for Kybe Corp in Waltham. George had a number of hobbies and interests. He enjoyed golfing and coin collecting. He enjoyed sailing with his friends. Every morning he would start his day with a cup of coffee and the crossword puzzle from the Boston Globe. George was a former member of the Burlington J.C.’s where he made many friendships in the town of Burlington. Through the J.C.’s he was on the committee for the July 4th Parade’s and he also worked on the development of the Burlington Common. George and Anna traveled extensively throughout Europe. Their last big trip together had been to Ireland. George was a devoute member of St. Margaret’s in Burlington. He and Anna would attend the 4:30 Mass every Saturday. George will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
George is the beloved husband of 51 years of Anna (Shelvey). He was the loving father of Barbara Manolagas of Dedham. Grandfather of Kerry & Kristie Manolagas. A visiting hour will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday Jan. 23 from 11 – 12 p.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 12:30 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
