Obituary of Jane Skelton
Jane E. Skelton, a resident of Burlington since 1938 passed away after a long illness at the Woburn Nursing Center in Woburn. She was 95 years old. Jane was born in Albany New York, the daughter of the late Edward and Sinah Owens. She grew up in Watervliet, New York, which is located north of Albany. She settled in Burlington in 1938 and has seen the town grow from a farming community with several thousand to drastic expansion soon after Route 128 was built to being a suburban industrial town with its mall and shops, high tech industry, and first class office space. Jane was part of the history and shared her experiences as an active member of the Burlington Historical Society.
Over the years, Jane worked as an elementary school teacher for the Burlington Schools. She was an elected official serving as a Library Trustee. She was a faithful supporter of the public library as well through her involvement in the “Friends of the Library”. She was also very active in her church, the United Church of Christ Congregational. She enjoyed being a part of her community.
Jane was the beloved wife of the late the late David Skelton. She was the loving mother of the late Catherine Lawson and her late husband Ralph Lawson. She was the sister of the late Benjamin and Catherine Owens. She was the grandmother of Sherri Baker & her husband Craig of Burlington and great grandmother of Ross and Katherine Baker of Burlington.
A memorial service will be held at the United Church of Christ Congregational on Friday, March 26 at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
