Obituary of Anna MacDonald

Anna (Shelvey) MacDonald, a retired teacher at the Fox Hill School, passed away at the Golden Living Center in Norwood on Thursday, April 29, 2010. The wife of the late George C. MacDonald who passed away on January 18, 2010, she was 79 years old. Anna was born, raised and educated in Lowell. She was one of six children born to the late Stephen and Margaret Shelvey. After graduating from High School Anna went on to further her education graduating from Lowell Teachers College. She also obtained her Masters Degree in Teaching. Anna worked as a teacher in Tewksbury and then briefly in CT. Anna and her husband moved back to Burlington in 1959. After raising her daughter Barbara she went back to teaching. She taught at Fox Hill Elementary School in Burlington for 20 years where she made many friendships. Anna had a special bond with her daughter Barbara. Anna and Barbara enjoyed many special times together whether it be going to the beach, the local mall or watching a favorite television show. Anna and her husband George were married 51 years. You would see them together at such places as attending the 4:30 Mass at St. Margaret’s or enjoying a lunch together at the Café Escadrille. Anna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Anna is the Beloved wife of the late George C. MacDonald, who passed away on January 18, 2010. She was the loving mother of Barbara Manolagas of Dedham. She was the grandmother of Kerry & Kristie Manolagas. She was the sister of the late Edward, Stephen & William Shelvey, Margaret Begley & Mary Connerney. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. A visiting hour will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Monday, May 3 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 11 a.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials in Anna’s name may be made to the American Lung Association, 460 Totten Pond Road, Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451.
