Obituary of Geraldine Patz
Geraldine Edith Patz, retired Assistant Comptroller of East Boston Savings Bank, passed away at her summer home in Rochester, NH with her children at her bedside on Saturday morning, July 31, 2010. She was 88 years old. Geraldine was born in East Boston, the daughter of the late Clifton and Frances Marks. She grew up in East Boston and was a graduate of the East Boston High School, Class of 1939. She kept childhood friendships throughout her life. She was a member of the reunion committee and had already purchased her ticket for her 71st year Class Reunion in September. She married Edward Patz on April 27, 1941. She endured being a new mother and having her husband fighting in WW II. She raised her 4 children and when they were off to school she went to work as a teller at the East Boston Savings Bank. She thoroughly enjoyed the customers and her coworkers at the bank. She retired as the Assistant Comptroller in 1990 after 26 years at the bank.
Geraldine made her home in East Boston until 1998. She then split her time between Melbourne, Florida and Rochester, New Hampshire. She was bright, outgoing, and adventurous. She loved to travel with her husband and family. She had her bucket list and worked hard to accomplish all her wishes. She had many friends wherever she lived. She camped at Grandview Camp Ground for over 28 years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society at Lamplighter Village, Florida. She was a past member of the Eastern Star. She was an active member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church in East Boston and a member of their Women’s Club where she helped organize fairs, suppers and other church events. She had a sharp mind, was an avid reader and enjoyed playing board games, cards, puzzles, and games of chance. She was devoted wife to her late husband Ed. She was a loving and caring mother and a great example to her children of how to live life to the fullest. She was a proud grandmother and great grandmother. It gave her great solace to have her family together for her last days. She will be lovingly remembered by all her family and friends.
Geraldine was the beloved wife of the late Edward M. Patz, Sr. She was the loving mother of Frances Craig & her husband Robert of Danvers, Edward Patz, Jr. & his wife Linda of Baton Rouge, LA, Elizabeth Patz & her husband Michael Vitale of Salem, NH, and Garry Patz & his wife Deborah of Wilmington and cherished aunt of Marsha Elixson of Lilburn, GA. She was predeceased by her siblings; Arthur Marks, Margaret Elixson, Elizabeth Ferris, and Richard Marks. She was also survived by 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, August 4 at 7 p.m. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
