Obituary of Alan Roderick

Alan Roderick, owner of Roderick Plumbing in Burlington, passed away at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston after a long battle with Lymphoma on Wednesday, August 29, 2012. He was 53 years old. He was born in Boston and was raised in Woburn. He was a graduate of Woburn High School, Class of 1977. He went into the plumbing trade and in 1987 started his own business, Roderick Plumbing. He specialized in commercial plumbing and had 7 employees working for him. Over the years, he had his sons and son-in-law work for him. He enjoyed his work, his employees, and his many loyal customers. Alan had a number of interests outside of work. He was a member of the Woburn Sportsman Association, where he enjoyed target shooting. He was a longtime coach with Burlington Pop Warner. He coached his sons first and then came back to coach his grandson’s teams. He was an offensive coach on all the various levels of Pop Warner Football. It gave him great joy to share his love of football with his sons, grandsons, and the other athletes. He enjoyed working around his home, yard, and pool. He loved spending time with all his family and was famous for his “Spontaneous Vacations” which were planned only hours before their departure. He was a loving and caring husband. He was extremely proud of all his children and their life choices. He especially loved being “Pop” to his grandchildren and the high point of his day was the time spent with them. He will be remembered for his hard work, devotion to his family and friends, and his positive and happy outlook on life. Alan was the beloved husband of 32 years of Laura (Winn). Loving father of Christina Hanlon & her husband Rick of Burlington, Daniel of San Diego, Michael of San Diego, and Matthew of Burlington. Son of Helene (Grabowski) Roderick of Methuen and Allan of Arlington Proud grandfather of Matthew, Zachary, Cassidy, & Madisyn Hanlon of Burlington. Brother of Jill Andersen & her husband Paul of Methuen. Godfather of Jenna Kelly (Andersen) and her husband Brian Kelly. Son-in-law of Vilma Winn of Arlington and Jack Winn of Cambridge. Brother-in-law of Jack & Ann Winn of Chelmsford, Michael Winn of Burlington, Paula Winn of Burlington, and Janice & Joe Veilleux of NC. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved their “Uncle Al.” A prayer service will be held on Wednesday, September 5 from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Sons of Italy, 168 Lexington St., Woburn. A celebration of Alan’s life will follow from 6:30 to 9 p.m. All wishing to pay their respects are welcome (casual attire.)
