Obituary of Despina Stefanidakis

Despina Stefanidakis, a woman devoted to her family, passed away at the Winchester Nursing Care Facility in Winchester on Friday morning, September 17, 2010. She was 93 years old. Despina was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, the daughter of Greek immigrants, the late George and Agape Eleftherakis. At the age of 2 her family returned to Greece where she grew up, was educated, and was married. She returned to the United States and settled in Cambridge with her husband in 1940. She was devoted to the care and wellbeing of her family. She embraced her role as homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be lovingly remembered. Despina was the beloved wife of the late Nicholas Stefanidakis. She was the loving mother of George Stefanidakis & his wife Martha of Houston, TX, Charles Stefanidakis & his wife Linda of Newbury, and Rev. Simeon Stefanidakis of Old Greenwich, CT. She was the sister of Elizabeth Hatzis of Somerville, and Eleftherios Eleftherakis of Somerville and the late Charles Ellis. She was the proud grandmother of Deborah Aramburu & her husband Derek of Houston, TX, Jennifer Kelly & her husband Robert of Houston, TX, Donna Landry & her husband Keith of Chelmsford, Georgia Jones & her husband William of Stow, Nicholas Stefanidakis & his wife Mary of Milton, Michael Ashton & his wife Marie of Medfield, and Kelley O’Connell & her husband Kevin of Epping, NH. She is also survived by 17 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Monday, September 20 at 10 a.m. Followed by a Funeral Service in the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, Woburn, at 11 a.m. Visiting hours Sunday 4-7p.m. Interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington. In lieu of flowers memorials in Despina’s name may be made to Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 70 Montvale Ave, Woburn, MA, 01801.
