We here at the Department of Fire Services are so sad to hear of Tom's passing. He was a true class act. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren and always had some story bragging, in the nicest possible way, about their accomplishments. We used to tease him that he was the Shell Answer Man because he so often started sentences with "Well at Shell we used to do it this way." He always tried to persuade and educate people to do what they were supposed to do in a nice way, but if sweetness didn't work, watch out. He could be as hard as a rock standing for what is right. Carr family, please accept our condolences.

I worked with Tom when he was a consultant to the State Fire Marshal's office. I work for the US EPA and was fortunate to work with this knowledgeable and caring man. The work we did was in the interests of the environment as the community of underground storage tanks was overseen by the state fire marshall's office. Tom would often be out in the field and his broad knowledge of the fuel delivery systems and their contents made the work more efficient and safer. But more than any of that, Tom had a warm side that he shared with me and that is what left a lasting impression in my mind and that is how I will always remember him. Heaven is a richer place with him there!
Blessings,
Stuart

I would like to extend my condolences to the Carr family.
Tom and I, and our families, were neighbors in Charlestown during the 1930's and 1940's. He and I also spent five days a week, for three years, taking the 'streetcar' to Malden Catholic Hign School (I was in the Classof 1949).
After high school, the next time I saw Tom was in a train station in Japan (I believe in 1953). I was serving in the Marine Corps as a SSGT with the Marine Air Wing in Korea and had gone to Japan on temporary duty, I think Tom was on R&R from Korea. I walked up to him and saluted - he didn't recognize me immediately and was bewildered by this Marine's behavior in a civilian train station. Needless to say we had a quick reunion before our trains arrived.
Again, my sincere condolences to the family.
