Obituary of Thomas Carr

Thomas G. Carr, a 51 year resident of Burlington and formerly of Charlestown, died on Thursday, October 28, 2010, at Lahey Clinic in Burlington after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was 79 years old. Tom was born in Charlestown on May 31, 1931 to the late Francis H. and Anne (Collins) Carr. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Malden Catholic High School in 1948. He then attended The Citadel Military Academy and graduated in 1952. He entered the United States Army on October 1, 1952 and served his country as a First Lieutenant Platoon Leader during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged on September 10, 1954. Tom worked as an engineer and sales representative for Shell Oil Company and retired after 34 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked as a consultant with the State Fire Marshall's Office for 10 years. Tom was past president of Burlington Youth Hockey and was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association. Tom was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing golf. He cherished spending time with his wife and following his 5 sons throughout their youth sports programs. In recent years, Tom enjoyed his time with his grandchildren. Tom is the beloved husband of 51 years to Gloria (DiPietro) Carr. He is the devoted father of Thomas G. Carr Jr. M.D. and his wife Michele of Fairhaven, Richard Carr and his wife Lori of Holden, James Carr and his wife Maureen of Holbrook, Robert Carr and his wife Amy of Wilmington and John Carr and his wife Rebecca of Rowley. He is the loving grandfather of 10 grandchildren. He is the beloved brother of Mary Simeone and her husband Salvatore of Weston, Philip X. Carr and his wife Mary of Charlestown the late Anne Donahue, William J., Francis H. Jr., John Keville, Joseph A. and Robert D. Carr. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Tom's Funeral on Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at 9 a.m. from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side), followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Margaret's Church, 111 Winn Street, Burlington, at 10 a.m. Burial will be private for immediate family only. Visiting huors will be on Monday, November 1, 2010 from 3 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, kindly make a memorial donation in Tom's name to The Michael J.
