Obituary of Kenneth Smalley

Kenneth M. Smalley, Sr. a retired Electrical Engineer at Raytheon passed away after a long illness at the Kaplan Hospice House in Danvers on Tuesday morning, June 7, 2011. He was 80 years old. Ken was born in Boston, the son of the late Frank and May Smalley. He grew up and was educated in Chelsea and Malden. He earned his Associates Degree from Northeastern University. He worked for Raytheon for 47 years as an Electrical Engineer. He worked on the Egis and Minuteman Radar Systems and holds several patents for his work. Ken had a number of interests and hobbies. He was a HAM Radio operator with the call sign WA1JXT for most of his life. He had many friends from all over the world that he kept in touch with over the years. He was an avid snow and water skier. He was involved in the Boy Scouts when his sons were young. He loved to camp with his family and friends. After spending 33 years in Burlington, he retired to the White Mountains of New Hampshire living in Landaff and Littleton, NH. He served on the Board of Directors of the Village of Loon. Ken prized the time he spent with his sons, grandchildren, and family and friends. Ken was the proud father of Kenneth M. Jr. & his wife Janet of Billerica, Steve A. & his fiancé Julia Cernova of Burlington, and Daniel R. & his wife Eleen of Wilmington. He was survived by his siblings; Frank of FL and Joan Barron of Provincetown. He was the devoted grandfather of Dimitri, Denis, Katie, Kirk, Sophia, Kyle, Alyssa and Daniel. He was the former husband of Jane (Steeves) Smalley of Landaff, NH. Funeral Services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Friday, June 10 at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
