Obituary of Arthur Stryke

Arthur K. Stryke, a resident of Burlington for over 56 years, passed away peacefully at Lexington Health Care on Friday evening, August 5, 2011 The beloved husband of 61 years of the late Kathleen (O’Malley), he had just celebrated his 86 birthday in July. Arthur was born in Woburn. He was the son of the late Cornelius and Catherine Stryke. At the age of 17 he left Woburn High School to fight in World War II from 1942 – 1946 in the United States Navy where he achieved the rank of SF Second Class. Arthur served in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. For his bravery he was award several decorations including the Navy and Marine Corp Medal for Heroism. . He was also the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, European-Middle Eastern-African Area Medal, Good Conduct medal and C.O. Commendation. Arthur was retired from the Burlington Post Office where he worked for over 25 years. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Kathleen and they had taken a number of cruises to the Caribbean as well as visits to Hawaii. He loved working around his yard. As recent as just a few weeks ago he had cut his own lawn. Arthur’s grandchildren were his life and he adored them. Arthur was the beloved husband of late Kathleen (O’Malley) who passed away in 2008. He was the devoted father of Kevin Stryke of Acton, Lynda Connolly of Brant Rock, William Stryke & his wife Ruth of Burlington, Theresa Fritscher & her husband James of Billerica and Patricia Buscemi & her husband Mark of Billerica. He was the brother of Roger Stryke & his wife Rose of Woburn and the late Cornelius “Connie” and Robert Stryke. Brother-in-law of Ruth Stryke of Burlington. Beloved “Pa” of Christopher & Kayleen Buscemi and Leslie Smith. Great grandfather of Brendan & Dana Smith. Funeral Services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday Aug. 9 at 11 a.m. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
