Obituary of Maureen G. Spence
Maureen G. “Moe” Spence passed away after a long battle with Cancer on Saturday morning, December 15, 2018 at 58 years old. Moe was born in Winchester, but was raised and educated in Burlington. She was the daughter of Josephine “Jody” and James Tighe. She married her husband, Mark, and they settled in Billerica 34 years ago. She worked with him managing their plumbing business, M.E. Spence Plumbing & Heating Service. Mark did the plumbing and Moe took care of the scheduling, bookkeeping, billing and the receivables. She enjoyed working together with her husband and the many longtime customers.
Moe’s life revolved around her family. In a house filled with men, she was the force that managed the home and kept everyone in line and organized. Her home was her special place and over the years she enjoyed designing renovations and landscaping. She also enjoyed decorating and adding the personal touches that made her home warm and welcoming. She had a passion for going to craft fairs and antique stores to find treasures for her home. In the warm weather she loved working on flower gardens, sitting by the pool or watching the waves at the ocean. She was a talented cook and baker, whose creations were always a hit at any gathering. She treasured simple things like going out to eat or bowling, playing board games, and playing pool with family and friends. She had a laugh that would brighten up any room and always made her presence known. Moe had a love of old phrases and anything Irish! She loved family vacations, with Niagara Falls being a favorite destination that never stopped amazing her. She was also a very private person and only let her immediate family know about her battle with breast cancer. She was really looking forward to the birth of her first grandchild. Moe’s passing leaves emptiness in the hearts of all that she loved, but her warm memories will live on forever.
Moe was the loving wife of Mark E. Spence. They would have celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary on January 2, 2019. She was the proud and loving mother of Matthew Spence of Billerica and Michael Spence of Tewksbury & his girlfriend, Kerri Dow. She was the sister of David Tighe of Burlington and sister-in-law of Cindy Tighe of Methuen, Charles & Joanne Spence of Lowell, Stephanie Spence of FL, Kevin Spence of Raymond, NH, and William & Trisha Spence of Georgetown. Moe is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
