Obituary of Doris Floyd

Doris (Craniford) Floyd, a woman of faith and family, passed away at her home on Thursday morning, January 10, 2019.  The beloved wife of Walter Floyd, she was 99 years old.

Doris was born in St. John’s Newfoundland Canada.  She was the daughter of the late George and Tryphena Craniford.  Doris moved to the United States at the age of 5.    Doris and her husband Walter married on January 17, 1942.  They moved to Arlington where they raised their family.  Doris moved to Burlington in the 1960’s and lived up the street from her close friend and sister-in-law Penny Newton.  After her husband Walter passed away Doris worked for the Town of Burlington in the Tax Office for about 15 years. She loved her job and her daily interaction with the residents of Burlington.    Doris was not one to be idle and she also volunteered at the Winchester Hospital.

Doris had a very close friendship with Howie and Natalie Bettinson. They all enjoyed time together and she was very happy to be included on all the cruises they took as well as their summer vacations in York Maine.  She also went on a trip to England with them where she was able to visit with a cousin. Doris’s church was her extended family. She was very involved in St. James in Cambridge and in recent years St. Mark’s in Burlington.

Doris loved to sing. She briefly attended Boston Conservatory and left to marry Walter and raise her family.  She loved to sing in the choir at both St. James and St. Marks.  This Christmas was the first time in nine years she was unable to sing with the chorus group at Billerica Crossing.  When people where ill at Billerica Crossing Doris would sit by their side and sing to them.  Families were always appreciative and came back to visit Doris and to thank her.  She was also the “greeter" at Billerica Crossing.  When a person came to visit for the first time Doris would show them around the facility. She also enjoyed playing bingo and trivia.

Doris will be remembered as an outgoing person who had great love for her family and her church.

Doris was the beloved wife of the late Walter.  Loving mother of Janet Macy & her husband Jon of Reno, Nevada, Allen Floyd & his wife Linda of Pelham, NH and the late Stephen Floyd.    Proud grandmother of Justin Floyd, David Floyd and Craig Macy.  Also survived by 5 great grandchildren.   Sister of the late Edward Craniford and Sidwell Sweetland.   Mother-in-law of Beth Floyd of NV.

Memorials Services will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 10 St. Mark’s Road Burlington on Thursday, January 17 at 11:30 a.m.  Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.    In lieu of flowers memorials in Doris’s name may be made to St. Mark’s Church.    Arrangements under the direction of the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home BURLINGTON.
