Lived across the street from Crawford's farm from the time I was 7 years old till I left home. Herbie new all us neighborhood kids would steal tomatoes and cucumbers. I had a salt shaker in my jean's pocket. One time my mouth turned inside out with cankers and my mother said if you did not steal Andy's tomatoes you would not have a sore mouth. But I never stopped they had the best vegie's. Herbie was a hard worker and I do remember when he was a volunteer fireman. The population of Burlington that time was about 3,000. people, and we all appreciated Herbie. He loved the town of Burlington. Sue Towse Cook from Newbridge Ave.

We are indebted to Herb as my wife Nancy Martin and daughter were staying next door at the Martin residence while I was in Thailand. My daughter was bitten by a dog in the face and Herb came to the rescue and took our daughter to the hospital. A few stitches later all was well. I was able to talk to him at one of the Martin's Labor Day gatherings a few years back. What stories he told and what a memory. Burlington has loss an icon. Condolences to all of Herbs family from this grateful Nebraska family and our daughter in Vegas.

My condolences to Herbie’s entire family. He was one of a kind and will be missed! I used to enjoy his conversations and history lessons about Burlington when he would visit the blood pressure clinic at the Mall. He had such a warm and friendly way about him that made everyone who met him love him! Until we meet again!
