I was a student at BHS during her tenure . She was intelligent and soft spoken, but brooked no nonsense from anyone whose behavior was out of line. She will be missed.

Mrs. Bruce introduced me to books as a 9th grader. Uptil then, I read for school, had magazines in my home and the Boston American newspaper. It was great for me, because she knew what I liked and recommended titles for me. My home is loaded with books. my wife is an avid reader and so are my two daughters. Certainly, I am not alone and this is her legacy. Rest in Peace, Mrs. Bruce.

I was looking at old yearbooks this morning and saw her picture (with signature) and thought about her. I used to love to go the the library in the original high school.

Aunt Olive was someone I always looked up to ( I realize an old expression). To me, she had an unique personality and captured my attention and respect. I remember visiting her beautiful home in Burlington and once during a Xmas holiday the tradition of using a gift wrapping paper shared by many who had experienced that same paper in other occasions. Beautiful!
While not active in her life, nor for that matter, her children, my cousins, for many years, the loss is felt.
I pray Nancy and Dick find comfort in the kind remembrances shared by all.

Burlington Historical Society has a special memory of Olive Bruce.
Olive held meetings and hosted many parties at her home for the society.
Although that was before I became a member of the Historical Society, I heard of Olive Bruce from members.
I did meet Olive at one of our meetings when I joined the society, and she invited me into her home. Such a historical home...I enjoyed my visit. And I enjoyed my time with Olive. Olive saved every card that loved ones had sent her. I wish I had known this special lady more.

I am struggling with the loss of my very dear friend, Olive. I have known Olive for most of my life; her daughter, Nancy and I were classmates for our 12 years at Burlington. I began working for Olive, at her home, very shortly after the loss of her husband, John. I continued working for Olive until she moved in 2010. We spent many a day together, making plans for the next remodeling project at her home on 3 Winona Rd. She had the "old-fashioned" storm windows, which had to be put up in the fall and taken down in the spring every year for 32 plus years! The stories are many and endless. She had a way about her and it was her way or the highway! It took me about 20 years to tell her what needed to be done and when. What a relationship we had; I will miss her dearly. I went in for a visit recently on her birthday. She slept throughout my visit; but I still talked and believe she heard me. Many of the residents in Burlington will remember me for my Coaching, but, if I would ever write a book it would be about my dear and unique friend. The title of the book would be "Olive's Way"; and it was.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Olive was a customer of mine for many years. I even continued to cut her hair when she moved to Edgewood. I'll miss her!!
