Obituary of Elvin L. Semrad
Elvin L. “Al” Semrad passed away at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center on Sunday evening, March 22, 2020. The beloved husband of Lil (Lynch) was 77 years old.
Al was born in Boston. He was raised in the village of Waban in Newton. Al was the son of the late Elvin and Henrietta Semrad. He graduated from St. Sebastian High School in Needham. After high school Al went on to attend the University of Notre Dame where he received his bachelor’s degree in liberal arts in 1964 and went on to obtain his MBA from Northeastern University. After college Al served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served from 1967 – 1973 and achieved the rank of Captain. Al was the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device and the National Defense Service Medal.
Al was a hard-working man and always worked two jobs. He was employed as a Supervisor at Fernald School in Waltham for over 30 years. Al also worked in the Customer Service Department of the IRS helping customers resolve their tax problems. Al had a thirst for knowledge and loved to read. His favorite subject were books of historical nature especially his family roots in Czechoslovakia. Al and his wife Lil enjoyed traveling and traveled throughout the world together. Al will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, his hard work ethic and his love and devotion to his wife Lil.
Al was the beloved husband of Ellen (Lil) Constantine-Semrad (Lynch). Loving brother of Henrietta M. Rycroft of Chelmsford, Susan D. Semrad of WI and the late Theodore L. of Carlisle. Stepfather of Rosemarie Quintal & her husband Miguel of NH, Lisa D’Entremont & her husband James of Wilmington, Jennifer Constantine of Wakefield and James Constantine, Jr. of Burlington. Proud grandfather of Emily, Jessica & Sarah D’Entremont; Meagan, Christa & Kelsey Dembitzky; Amanda Quintal and Paige Harris. Great Grandfather of James Dembitzky. Al is also survived by nieces Nicole of Billerica & Krista Rycroft of NY; Susan and the late Laura Semrad of Cape Cod and nephew Theodore of Cape Cod. Due to the coronavirus restrictions, funeral services will be private.
