Hugh, thanks so much for your kind words. My dad loved to work, and loved his job. When we would go for drives, as kids and adults, he many times would comment on the garages he worked out of, and the work he did. Thanks again, and be well.

Dear Patty, Bill, Karl, Michael, Paul and Families, wishing we were with you today as we said “good-bye” to Billy. We were happy to view the graveside ceremony. Remembering the many trips to Burlington with Karen and Robert as well as the summer holidays together in Cape Breton. He was such a kind and thoughtful man. Billy will be missed. A donation will be made in his memory. Sincere sympathy from Carmel and Bob.

Thanks Carmel & Bob! You should know how fond he was of his Canadian family, and how much he cherished his visits to Cape Breton and Ottawa, and your trips down here. Even at the end, with his memory fading, when we would mention trips to Cape Breton, his eyes would light up. Thanks for your kind words, and I hope to be able to see all of you soon...Karl

To all of my American cousins, I am so sorry for your loss. I'm thinking of you all and wishing I could be there with you right now to celebrate Uncle Bill's amazing life.
I am sure that many an Ontario and Quebec Highway Patrolman will also be mourning with us. He led so many of them a merry chase each summer with his car load of kids on the way to Cape Breton Island and again on his way back home.
Hammer down, Uncle Bill. Godspeed.

David, thanks so much for your kind words...and you’re right, he gave some of those Royal Mounted Police a run for their money. Thanks again and I hope to see all of you this summer...I hope! Karl

Thanks David! I remember him getting stopped by the mounties when I was a little kid and crying because I thought they were going to put him in jail :o) He sure did love speed...pedal to the metal when ever he got a truck hop. Wish all of you could have been here!
Michael Ganshirt Posted Apr 23, 2020 at 7:20 PM
He was a speeder, for sure. I was proud when he told me I was a "jackass" with a smile on his face for getting to Cape Breton in 10 hours, 5 minutes one year in my little ford. I think he was a little envious, actually. :-)

As a newer member of the family, I got to know Bill by spending some time with him, though more so through the eyes of my husband, his siblings and many grandchildren. An inspiration to all, he will be greatly missed. May his his spirit and legacy flourish within all of you and may you be comforted by the many memories of love.
With deepest sympathy,
