Billy came into this world with a soul that few have. Not pure in the traditional sense; I mean he could swear like a sailor and drink like one too.
Pure as in he was a great equalizer. Billy never let anyone feel as though they were unworthy, or less than. He graced people, who were lucky enough to have known him, with pure acceptance and little judgment. Having Billy Murphy in your corner allowed for a truly authentic friendship to evolve.
I didn't speak much with Billy in the past 10 years, but he would message me at times, usually to deliver a compliment wrapped tightly in a package of snark and annoyance.
He made me laugh. He made me laugh when I first met him when we were 13-years- old, he made me laugh when we last spoke some years ago, and he is making me laugh now as I reflect on how big his presence was–because the memories keep pouring in, seemingly endless.
My heart goes out to his sisters Gail and Kate. Thank you for sharing your little brother with us.
Warmly,
Judy Fay

Our relationship started at 14, and has no end. It has taken different shapes and been important in many ways over it's damned-near 40 year span. It started with a laugh (what else?), then moved to first love and many other firsts. We were always friends. We shared laughter, love, secrets, fights, support, grief, respect and a bond that will never be broken. The last communication I had with him was him making me laugh...what else? Billy is part of my heart and soul and nothing will ever change that. I can't pick up the phone and call him anymore, but I can hear him in my head being his sweet, supportive, irreverent, stubborn, pain-in-the-ass self and it makes me smile. That is his irrepressible gift...even in the face of his passing, he brings laughter....Love you, Billy

Billy's many friends helped with this one, on StaplesSoccer.com. He was always proud to be a Staples High School soccer player, and I am proud that he was too. http://www.staplessoccer.com/staples-soccer-mourns-billy-murphy-85/
