Marguerite E. (Derro) McCabe passed away at D’Youville Manor in Lowell on Thursday evening, September 17, 2020.  The beloved wife of the late John “Jack” McCabe, she had just celebrated her 90th birthday in May.

Marguerite was born, raised, and educated in Winchester.  She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Theresa Derro.   Marguerite and Jack married in September of 1954.  They moved to Burlington where they raised their four children.

Prior to her marriage to Jack, Marguerite worked as a Bank Teller.  While her children where in school she would work part-time as a waitress at Friendly’s in the Center of Burlington and Brigham’s Ice Cream at the Burlington Mall.  Being a waitress in her hometown was the perfect job for Marguerite.  It gave her the flexibility to be home when her children came home from school.  Her outgoing and bubbly personality gave her the opportunity to interact with many of the residents of the town.  Marguerite’s faith was an important part of her life and was a longtime member of St. Margaret’s Church in Burlington, where she was a regular at the 4:30 p.m. Mass.

Marguerite and Jack enjoyed traveling.  Two of their most memorable trips were a Budapest River Cruise and a vacation at a “dude” ranch in Wyoming.    During their retirement years they would spend their winters in Florida.  Marguerite and Jack also enjoyed taking Sunday drives and exploring different restaurants for dinner.   Marguerite was a regular at the Senior Center in Burlington and Billerica where she enjoyed playing bridge with her friends.

Marguerite loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She enjoyed taking them on day trips to such destinations as the Discovery Museum and other local attractions.  She took great joy in giving them their birthday and Christmas gifts and a lot of thought went into selecting the perfect gift for each grandchild.  Marguerite will be remembered as an outgoing woman who had a great enthusiasm for life.

Marguerite was the beloved wife of the late John W. “Jack”.  Loving mother of Gregory J. & his wife Linda of Manchester, NH, Stephen J. & his wife Gail of Chelmsford, Kimberly A. Musto & her husband John of Boxborough and Jeffrey B. & his wife Denise of Tewksbury.  Proud grandmother of Lauren Harrison, Eric, Alec, Joseph, Rachael & Christopher McCabe, and Dana & Garrett Musto.  Great Grandmother of Grace and Conner.  Sister of the late Thomas Derro.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Margaret’s Church of St. Veronica Parish, 111 Winn St., Burlington on Friday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m.  Burial to follow in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, BURLINGTON.  Due to the current covid-19 pandemic and concern for the health of family and friends, the McCabe family has decided not to hold visiting hours. The Mass will be live streamed at 10 a.m., linked to Marguerite’s obituary on the Sullivan Funeral Home website.    In lieu of flowers memorials in Marguerite’s name may be made to Minuteman Senior Services, 26 Crosby Drive, Bedford, MA 01703   www.minutemansenior.org
