Obituary of Nicholas Mancini

Nicholas Mancini, Founder and President of Mancini Sheet Metal, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, September 30, 2011. He was 80 years old. Nick was born in Gaeta, Italy the son of the late Salvatore and Genesia Mancini. When he was only a few months old, his family immigrated to the United States. He grew up in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He held the rank of Airman First Class and was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and United Nations Service Medal. For Nick, the best of being in the service was meeting and marrying his wife, LaVonne, when he was stationed in Kansas. Nick founded Mancini Sheet Metal in Billerica in 1976. He took great pride in his work and servicing his many customers. He was a very good business man growing his company over the past 35 years to include several dozen employees including several children. He treated his employees like family, treated his clients with the utmost respect and, was always willing to give a helping hand to someone in need. Nick had a number of interests and activities when he wasn't running his company. He enjoyed golfing, but more importantly he enjoyed the people with whom he played. He loved a good came of poker. He enjoyed reading, puzzles, and spending time at the beach with friends and family. He was an active member of Saint Margaret's Church and often volunteered his services to help with their renovation and maintenance projects. He was also a &quote;Great Entertainer&quote;. He loved being social and loved to have company to his home in Burlington, Centerville, or Vero Beach. Everyone was always welcome and guaranteed to have a great time. Many described Nick as being &quote;generous to a fault&quote; and &quote;having a big heart&quote;. He loved his family, coworkers, and friends and would do anything for them. He took pride in his accomplishments and was happy to share his success with those he loved. Nick was the beloved husband of LaVonne M. (Dinges) Mancini. He was the loving father of Patricia Kennedy & her husband Charles of Leominster, David & his wife Linda of Burlington, Janis of Burlington, Mary Belmonte & her husband Michael of Reading, Robert & his wife Lisa of Billerica, and Richard & his wife Genie of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He was the brother of Pasquale &quote;Pat&quote; of Arlington and Alfred of Vero Beach, FL. He was the proud Papa of Christopher & Erin Kennedy, Mark, Nicholas, Melissa, Gregory, Justin, Mitchell, Jeremy, Olivia, and Gavin Mancini, Guy Giardina, and Logan Wexler-Hill. He was the great grandfather of Sadie Kennedy and Alyssa Kennedy-Kloepper. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St.,BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday , Oct. 4 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret's Church at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
