I met John in 1978 and married his eldest daughter four years later.
He and his wife Kathaleen threw countless family gatherings and instilled a “Family First” attitude in all his children.
I always enjoy John’s sense of humor‘s and his generosity was astounding.
He took us on trips to Vegas, and paid for hotel rooms when my son got married in Texas.
Most notably John took the entire family, including our children on an all expense paid trip to Ireland for a family reunion!!
That's John “Family First”
As his health began to fail he had to satisfy his need to travel through flight simulation on an elaborate set up in his home.
Sadly for his loved ones here on earth John has moved on.
I don’t believe there’s any flight simulations in heaven.
I do believe John has his copilot Kathaleen sitting right beside him and they are traveling again.
And if I know the both of you, you have your beloved dog (LadyKate) in the cockpit with you :-)

Our sincerest sympathies to Maureen, Kathleen, Janet, Paula, Cheryl, Margaret, Josephine, Frances and the extended O' Callaghan Families on the very sad passing of dear John. He was a much loved dad, grandad, great grandad and brother who will be sorely missed by all. We have such wonderful memories of the trips to Ireland and our trips to Boston which will always be treasured. You are all in our thoughts and prayers at this very sad & difficult time. May John's gentle soul rest in peace. (Cousins Joe & Bríd O' Callaghan)

My fondest memory of Grampy O was for my 10th birthday. Instead of getting another Lord & Taylor sweater to add to the pile, they decided to take me out to the mall. I picked out some toys that can’t even remember now. The real gift that year was the laughs we shared at Bertucci’s and the three of us watching “Rudy” for my first time. I’m still a Notre Dame fan to this day because of that night.
Love you Grampy, tell Grammy and Kate they are always in our hearts and prayers.

We were John's and Kathy's neighbors from 1965 until we moved in 1971. We and our daughter Lisa have some of our fondest early Eugene Road, memories enjoying each other's company. Our condolences to the entire family.

The first time I met John, (Grampy-O), he was so excited to welcome me into the family. He kept up with me through e-mails and phone calls often and on multiple occasions gifted Mark and I money so that we could see each other during our long-distance engagement. He also insisted that I take the recipe for his wife’s famous Pepperoni Dip and made sure to write it down for me so I knew exactly how to make it step by step. When Mark and I were to be married in Texas he never thought twice and traveled across the country to be with us on our special day. Dr. O’Callahan was one of the kindest most thoughtful souls there ever was. We love him so much and our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who was blessed to have made his acquaintance. May he Rest In Peace.
