James Linda and Judy ; So sorry to hear of your Dads passing. Mom and I were waiting for her MD appt and we both wondered how Richard was doing. Then his obituary showed up on my phone after I did a web search. Your Dad and Mom were very special to my Mom and Grandmother (Ruby Zwicker-Ramey and Winnie Zwicker). I remember what I believe would have been your Dad’s last NS visit with you Jimmy when you visited Mom here in Bridgwater NS. Mom was really touched you chose a photo of her and my grandmother Winnie to put in the memory video collage. Please look us up if ever vacationing in NS. Hope your good memories get you through this tough time. Dan and Ruby Ramey

Dear James, Linda and Judy, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your dear father, who I called Uncle Richie. He was a pure, kind, genuine and gentle soul. I remember visiting him and Auntie Joye at your home many times as a kid growing up - one time Jimmy took me to a local bar with a live rock band, for a couple beers or two. Uncle Richie always had a friendly, welcoming home. I know you will greatly miss him, and I offer my prayers and deepest condolences.
love, your cousin, Keith Malley

Richard Freeman funeral, 9 September 2021
Remarks by his brother Raymond Malley
We were five brothers. Now we are but four. Richard has gone.
Or has he? Perhaps not. Perhaps he is just Up There, awaiting the rest of us, in Due Course.
We did many things when kids in Cambridge and Watertown. Sledding on Observatory Hill in winter, accompanied by Bobby and Kenny. Our elder fifth brother Billy was mostly in Canada – he was with us only for a while, then joined the Army.
Our French Acadian mother loved the ocean. We went often to Revere and Nantasket beaches during the summer. I remember getting big sunburns – we did not realize then that the sun’s rays can be very harmful.
And going to the movies in Harvard Square on Saturdays, to see Tom Mix foil the bad guys, and Pauline escape from another of her many perils.
Baseball. We all loved baseball. And loved playing “catch” with Daddy in front of our house. Daddy had been a fine semi-pro player. Richie also became a good player.
Richie and I worked. We were paper boys in Watertown, Route 18 near the Belmont line. I was the first. When I moved on, Richie became the paperboy. We were good too. We did not break many windows throwing papers from our bicycles !
Time moved on. Richard made a career in the new and growing information technology industry. He and Joye raised a fine family – just look around you!
And number One Ellen Road. How many times – many, many times – did I drive with Rita, and then Josette, to the famous One Ellen Road. And how many donuts did I eat there – plenty !
Richie’s hole-in-one. He was so proud of that. I have a photo in my office of him in golf gear grinning and holding up a trophy. You may have the same photo -- I suspect he distributed dozens of them !
In recent years Richie, Bobby and Kenny would visit us in Hanover, New Hampshire. You all know how Richie in particular, with Joye, enjoyed driving and exploring rural parts of New England. We would attend Dartmouth College football and baseball games. It was bitterly cold during one particular November game, and partly at Richard’s suggestion we sought heat in a nearby church at half time. He was anxious to go to church that day !
So those are some memories of my kind, gentle, successful brother Richard.
Who perhaps Up There, awaits the rest of us, in Due Course.

Your Dad was a happy, kind and hardworking man from an amazing generation. We have always lived so far away from our Malley/Freeman family way out here in Washington State. We visited when we could by taking the train, long car rides with 5 kids across country. We were always so excited to see everyone. We stayed long enough to reconnect with everyone. Then were off with our new found Boston accents, which we would practice on the way home.
I remember one special trip when we rented a beach house big enough for everyone to stay in. We had so much fun, went to the beach everyday with the whole gang. "Uncle Richie" would take anyone who got up early for a walk on the beach with him out to a restaurant for toasted English muffins and hot chocolate. That was really special. I also remember beating him at cribbage, I was so happy because he was really good. He probably let me win but that's okay.
When Uncle Richie, Auntie Joy and Uncle Bobby came out for a visit we all had the greatest time. It was so fun visiting the local sites and sharing them. While they were visiting us our cows got out in the road and it was so funny to watch and hear their reactions to Vic herding them back into the corral with a 2 x 4.
We know how special it was for us to call your Dad "Uncle Richie", not everyone got to call him Richie. He was very happy with his hole in one "Ace". This became his favorite Christmas Card to send out, we loved it.
We love and miss Ace,
Your cousin Jo Ann Malley Poland

Ace was more than just part of the family to me. I would always look forward to seeing him on Sunday’s and listen to his stories. He was a caring and selfless man who always made me feel part of the family. He loved seeing his great grandkids and playing card games with them. He has imbedded family traditions with us and created many memories. I will truly miss just seeing his smile and hearing his voice around Linda’s on Sunday’s. Love You Grandpa
