I still come back to this obituary to reread and to watch the video. Grief truly has no linear timeline because I think I’ll miss Papa—and Grammy— for the rest of my life. I treasure my many memories of growing up in their house. I looked forward to spending every weekend, even as a teenager (!), with them and with my Dad. They were amazing grandparents who loved all of us grandchildren equally. It was always very clear to me because they would tell me little stories or updates about all of my cousins all the time. They did the same about their children/my aunts and uncles, too. I have too many memories and feelings to share here, but I treasure them all in my heart.
I’ll always miss you Papa, and as a teacher who works with kids who are sometimes going through hardships, as you did at the age of seven, I dedicate any support, encouragement, and guidance that I am able to offer them, to you!
Thank you for taking me on your paper routes, telling me stories about Maine, caring about the environment and global warming, the British comedies, the homemade bread, the deep red tomatoes off the vine, the bitter rhubarb, the library trips, my science fair project (Electric Motor), conversations at the kitchen table, conversations on the phone during COVID while I was pregnant, Christmas cards and gifts, your quiet and calm presence as a grandfather, your honesty in your storytelling- including about your own flaws, your appreciation for my first public speech in a college class on the Fainting Goat (such a random topic but Papa was proud!), computer games, tech help, burned DVDs, asking me about what I was learning in school, asking me about my teaching as a teacher, being there as I grew up, and thank you Papa for giving me so many reasons to grieve, because it’s just the result of having had something very, very valuable, something that is still with me now.

Gerry was the first friend we made at Youville Place. He was a warm & caring gentleman who was always ready to lend a helping hand or give good advice. He was so proud of his daughters & sons. Indeed, they were his legacy!
Gerry was a "blessing" to us at Youville Place! Every day Gerry glorified God by being a man of integrity who made his "work" be a "vocation". We thank Gerry for his goodness by our prayers for him & his family!

Debra and I send you all our love. Gerry was a such a wonderful uncle to me and my siblings growing up. I always looked forward to your visits every year. He and aunt Madeline were so fun to be around. I remember cookouts at Grams and visits to the coast. A great family man who raised 7 wonderful children. I wish I could be there to hug you all. I love you guys.

To all the Buzzell family,
: Not many people can say that they've been next door neighbors for 60 years! I have many fond memories of all of us growing up on Sarah Street and of your parents but especially of your dad. It truly is an end of an era and I will very much miss our talks and friendship over these many years. My thoughts and prayers are with him and all of you.

To all of the Buzzell family I wish to express my condolences. Your Dad/grandfather/great-grandfather was a good man devoted to his wife and family. I will always remember their many visits to Maine to visit family and the funny and unique way that Gerry would cut the watermelon at family reunions. Gerry will be missed by all who knew him.

The Torode family is sending you all a hug. Jen, Eileen let us know that your Dad passed and we're sorry for your/your family's loss. What a beautiful write up and the photos are equally as beautiful. He's definitely laughing with Madeline and looking down with fond memories. Thinking of you all. - Jennifer Torode
