I just found out about Penny's passing. I grew up with her in Medford & always found her to be such a Happy person. Her mom & my mom were great friends.
I met her a short time ago at Market Basket & talked for at least an hour. It was great to catch up.
Sorry for your loss. Peggy Friel MacDougall

We recently received a donation in Penny's honor, which we did not know was going to happen. We are so humbled and grateful. Thank you. We are so sorry to all of Penny's family and friends for your loss. (I work for the Air Force. Bet there are others where I work who have fond memories of her). Will use donations in very special ways to honor Penny's joyful memory.
With condolences, Sharon DuBois, Billerica Cat Care Coalition

Dear Sharon, thank you for your message. My Mom adopted a cat “Buddy” a number of years ago and he brought her such joy. We have donated in the bins at Market Basket and could not have chosen a more worthy organization to have donations sent to. It is ironic that you also work for the Air Force where my Mom worked years ago and had many friends.
Thank you for all you do.

The last time I spoke with Aunt Penny, we just laughed a lot. She always said right before we got off the phone, "you know where I am." I should have listened to that and gone to visit more. And we always said "I love you"
Saying goodbye is going to be hard. I have so many wonderful memories. This picture was taken at one of her 4th of July parties and I actually got Uncle Joey to smile!
One thing I definitely remember is her Mustang car. We would load up the car with Nana, my mother and 6 little girls...we must have looked like a clown car all getting out! Aunt Penny came up camping with us at Mi-Te-Jo and made friends immediately... because that's what she did everywhere. We had rides on the Swan Boats in Boston, Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas baskets in Wollaston, Easter dinners, just Sunday dinners in Medford eating and talking and laughing.
Penny could be difficult at times but her love for her family always shone through. She and Uncle Joey were best friends, and he had a cute nickname for her, "Tallulah." Aunt Penny was always there for her children and family...Sue, Ron, Isabella, Joey and Penny travelled as a pack. They had dinners, vacations, spa days together...well, maybe not Ron and Joey at the spa! Ha!
Elaine gave Aunt Penny and Uncle Joey their first grandchildren, Kyle and Erika and then came along great-grandchildren! But don't forget Isabella! She hosted a family-filled anniversary party last summer where we were all able to get together for a fun time and Penny was in her glory seeing everyone. We also had fun in DC last summer for Carolyn's retirement from the Navy.
Everyone loved Aunt Penny. Everyone will miss Aunt Penny. Gone too soon for all of us. I needed more time with my aunt. I love you.
Love, Ginni

So many memories I have of Nana in the short time I had the pleasure of knowing her. The first photo is from the countless times she wanted to cut my tattoos off with a butter knife because I was to handsome to have tattoos. The second photos shows how she always had a smile on her face every time I got to see her. She may have never known who I was but I never left her presents with out a hug or Nana telling Erika is she didn’t keep me she would. I’m gonna miss you Penny and may you Rest In Peace ❤️

So sad about the passing of Aunt Penny. She had such a strong life force, such energy, and so much love for her family. As a kid I enjoyed summer visits to the Silva’s, spending the day in the pool, eating great food, lots of fun and laughter, and always a Red Sox game playing in the background. Other great memories include Sunday dinners at Nana’s, shopping at the Burlington Mall - my Mom, Aunt Penny, and six energetic little girls - long afternoons at a dining room table discussing various subjects over coffee and desert, and family celebrations of birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, graduations, etc.
There’s a saying that everyone dies, but not everyone truly lives. Aunt Penny truly lived, and she will be missed by those of us who were lucky enough to know and love her.
Rest In Peace.
Love, Carolyn

Since I heard this news, I have wanted time to remember how wonderful she truly was. She was a ball growing up and directed some of my life experiences in our ways we smile, hugs and a great laugh. She always was ready to help in life, but she never forced herself to interfere. We met when my Uncle Joe was skating teaching us Doves the art of dancing as they skated. My Aunt Penny saved memories together in her heart and she was aware of five then. I remember so many good times we shared prior to my life moving on and her call to become Superior Grandmother status. My hopes will always be my memories of those Portugueses events with VoVo and Vo. Not many others can say when our Aunt Penny soon became Portugueses/Irish. She always would say Joesph darling honey and I enjoyed being part of these years. This was my aunt who never asked to know but she expressed her concerns. Young lady getting married invites the Dove crew deserves to be remember in a special way I know so many great past times. So now you're up there, look down and rest forever Aunty. She always got mad when I called her Aunty saying you're not that young Mr.
At 73, Mr. Mrs. Joesph Silva helped with pride, love, kindness when required Thank you. Hardest part of passing is heart break. But memories will make you smile.

This picture is from August 23, 2015. This is the last picture of Aunt Penny and her sister, my mother, Helen McGee. They hadn't seen each other for a very long time and they were both very happy to spend a beautiful day together. It's a special memory for me. I'll always remember Aunt Penny for her laughter, smiles, and hospitality. She was a wonderful cook and I have so many special memories of holidays in Medford, Melrose and Burlington. She will be very missed.
RIP,
