Joey Edwards posted a condolence
Friday, May 13, 2022
Hi, I am Joey Edwards and I was a player on Coach O’Neils Burlington hockey teams for several years with Brian. I came from playing Arlington hockey to Burlington hockey in 7th or 8th grade, and it was a rough transition at the start because I didnt know anybody (I went to school in Arlington my whole life). After getting all the alpha male/dominance fights over-with in the locker room, I started to get along with my new teammates, mostly thanks to Coach O’Neil. He told the other kids that he’d whoop their ass if they kept messing with me. Over the years, I spent a lot of time in the penalty box, which would normally make your average hockey coach pretty mad. Not Coach O’Neil. He thought it was hilarious how daring I was. I got kicked off the ice a few times, I got hurt a few times, and I had to miss games/practices here and there due to other commitments. I could always go to Coach O’Neil to talk about stuff, it seems like he always had the perfect answer, and in a humorous way too. He always had my back, on or off the ice. I’ll never forget that. Thank you Coach, we can lace up the skates again at some point

I am Peters cousin, Janet Shields. My mother Barbara was Uncle Dicks sister. I want to express my deepest sympathy for your loss! I remember him, and Paul at all the family get togethers. Reading his obituary made me realize what a wonderful man he became, how much he loved his family and what a great life he had! Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers and that he is safe in Jehovah Gods memory. Love, cousin Janet

I'm so saddened to learn of Peter's passing. I was lucky enough to cross paths with Peter for many years while working at Raytheon. He was such a professional and supportive of Raytheon, but what I enjoyed most was sharing stories and getting to know him. Peter had a big personality and will be sorely missed. My condolences to the entire O"Neil family - God bless you all. Peace and love, Dave Chamberlain

Our deepest condolences to the O'Neil family. I only knew Peter when he coached Lauren and my daughter April in the early days of softball and the post game pizza parties at our house. I'll always remember his kindness and patience with the kids and how he was a part of that inspiration that kept my April playing the game until she graduated college. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you always.

My sincerest condolences go out to the O’Neil family, especially to his wife Julie and their three children.
Peter and I met in 1996 while working in the electrical industry and I will never forget how people gravitated to him and the way he lit up a room, hence I used to call him “The Mayor”. He taught me how to play the game of golf, we spent countless hours calling on many customers, we would get together a couple of times a month to have lunch and developed a close personal friendship over the years.
He would always light up when he spoke about his family, especially his kids and was always so proud of them and their accomplishments.
Peter was truly one of the great people in the electrical industry as he always made the day brighter with his charm, humor and wittiness. He was loved by many and will be missed tremendously!
I am deeply saddened to hear of Peter’s passing, but I will always have fond memories of him and feel honored to have called him a colleague and a friend.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you!

Julie, Lauren, Brian, and Erin,
Words cannot express how truly sorry we all are to hear about the loss of Peter. I remember fondly his years coaching Ava in hockey. She was one of only a couple of girls at the time and she was playing forward. She was not doing that well and Peter decided one day to randomly put her on defense. She did great and he came up to us and said “I’m not sure where that kid came from but I think we found her new spot!”
She went on to play D all through high school after that. His time and patience with her paid off. He took her under his wing and treated her just like all the boys on the team. He was a great coach! We talked and laughed on many occasions through the years with the kids and then got to enjoy Cam and Lauren going to prom. So many years as friends! Such a great guy. He would always pass my house and roll down his window to ask how the kids were. He will be so missed and always in our hearts!
Maureen, Cam, Ava , Ali and Gavin

Sincerely sorry that this happened. Some of my greatest childhood memories was at the Oneils pool and Peter would always entertain us, grade my dives off the diving board, show us the bunny in the tree and let us play in the sandbox while he and my parents made lots of summer memories together. Love you guys , Elyse
