Having grown-up but eight houses from the Curtin family on North Street, I cannot help but lament Bill's passing as the end of an era for those of us who were fortunate enough to have known and been friends of Mr. & Mrs. Curtin, Bill, Donnie and Ricky. Although I was closer in age to Donnie and Ricky and Bill was the age of my late older brother, Richard and sister, Loretta, Bill was ever-present. As I think back, I can recall Bill walking to and from his home with his briefcase in tow, undoubtedly during his years in law school (though, at the time, I had no idea he was to become a "once and future" barrister!)
Although I have never left the West Somerville neighborhood where I experienced many happy days growing-up with so many wonderful friends and neighbors, such as the Curtins were, it is surely not the same.
There is a line of dialogue in the movie "Stand by Me," which, for me, says it all about Bill and all the Curtins when, harkening back to his youth, Richard Dreyfus says: "I never had any friends like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?" RIP neighbor, and be sure to give my best to Mom, Dad, Donnie & Ricky. - Andrew "Sonny" Puglia

To the Curtin family, I was sad to hear from my sister of Bill's passing. My deepest condolences on the loss of a great man. I will always remember the fun when the kids were growing up. I hope you always remember the funny stuff he did and pass that along to everyone you meet. May he rest in peace. Michelle

Dear Curtin family and extended family,
I was blessed to have met Bill and the Curtin family, through Colleen and John Hickey. Bill and the Curtin family made me feel welcome at family events and to their home on the cape. Bill had a way of making the room laugh and smile with a joke and his quick wit. Anytime, I felt stressed over life issues, it was nice to be around Bill to listen to his stories and jokes, which always relaxed me. In fact, to this day, I think I still remember one of his jokes (I am fairly certain this came from Bill). "A skunk, a deer and a duck went out to dinner. When it came time to pay the skunk didn't have a scent, and the deer didn't have a buck, so they put the meals on the duck's bill." I still chuckle when I hear this. My condolences to the Curtin family. Thank you, Bill, for the memories.

i am saddened to read of Bill's passimg. There are so many memories of playing golf with him at Winchester and the banter back at the 19th hole that create the image I will always have of the smiling Irishman with a harty laugh and good fellowship. May God give you the needed Grace to endure your loss.
