Obituary of Evon MacIver
Evon MacIver (Schwartz) passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 10, 2023 at the age of 90. Evon was born to her parents Carl and Alpha, who had emigrated from Sweden. Evon was born and raised in Malden, and graduated from Malden High School. During high school, Evon worked at the local movie theater as a candy girl where she met a young Scottish man named Joe who worked as an usher. They began to talk and eventually started dating. After graduating High School, Evon went to secretarial school and Joe joined the Air Force. Joseph returned from serving in the Korean War in January 1955, and they were wed that April.
Evon and Joe started a family, welcoming their three kids, Bruce, Dana, and Holly, before moving to Burlington in 1962. The family grew up on Brantwood Lane, where they were part of a great community with the neighbors. All the mothers would send their kids off to school and get together for coffee. The moms would regularly get together in the evening to play Pokeno or Michigan Rummy.
Evon, Joe and the kids loved to travel all over New England and the greater northeast as a family. They would pack up the car and trailer to go to such places as Maine, New Hampshire, Cabot Trail, Niagara Falls, Fort Ticonderoga, Nova Scotia and many others. Evon and Joe were always up for an adventure.
Two of Evon’s favorite past times were shopping and dining. She loved walking and shopping at the Burlington Mall. The way to Evon’s heart was a good meal, and a cold class of Pinot Grigio with friends.
In 2018, when Evon moved into Windsor Place Assisted Living, she took advantage of all it had to offer. She loved getting involved with all the various activities, bingo, exercise classes, art programs, cooking courses, listening to music and dancing with friends. She enjoyed the company of all the friends and staff members that Windsor Place offered. She would walk the halls, greeting her neighbors with a friendly hi and a wave.
Evon will be remembered for her motherly spirit and kind heart. Her kids will be forever grateful that she was always so supportive of them, allowing them to follow their passions in life.
Evon was the beloved wife of the late Joseph MacIver. She was the loving mother of Bruce MacIver of Salem, NH, Dana MacIver and his wife Cheryl of Burlington, and Holly Tympanick and her husband Peter of Tewksbury. She was the proud grandmother of Emily, Eric, and Kristen MacIver. Evon is preceded in death by her little sister, Marion Schwartz.
