My first friend was Richie, our backyards connected and we grew up together, he was a best buddy when my father passed away, we played hockey and football together, in same classes in school. I always valued his friendship, he was a big part of my growing up. I ride by our old neighborhood and think back to the days when we were kids. Our families were friends, as were all of the families on the streets, the school bus stop was in front of my house and Richie would always cut through our yard to it, great memories. I just found out his passed, I would have been there to say good bye my friend.

Richie was a great friend . In 4th grade I had brought in a bunch of my baseball cards to show some friends . Richie went into my desk and grabbed them to look at them and Mr Preston took them from him . He kept them in his desk until the last day of school . Preston played “ guess a number “ with the guys in the class . Mike Levy guessed it and went home with MY CARDS ! Richie was sooooo upset and apologized to me for years after that . He had a big heart even at that young age . I loved me some Richie ! God Bless him and his family . I sure hope they have baseball cards in Heaven !

Richie Mellor was my first best friend. We explored the wonder years together. We built snow forts and ambushed any poor soul who walked or rode by. We hitched rides on the back bumpers of Mail trucks. While our mothers chased after us with their ever ready brooms. We played whiffle ball till our arms fell off. And whoa the kid who homered off him. The next pitch was always his feared riser right between your eyes. We double dated our future wives in high school. And as often happens we drifted apart. But when we bumped into each other it was a magical thing. He will always be my first friend………..God speed old friend..
Your pal Jerry Healy

Richard loved and doted on his grandchildren and was always there to cheer them on. He was the best Papa to Evelyn, Charlotte, Trey and Tanner.

Richie was a good friend. Marsha was the love of his life. He loved his boys. Richie loved life, loved his BSA and had many good friends all of which hung out at Friendly’s. He was passionate with all he did, he was an excellent mechanic, an unbeatable chess opponent and forget about winning a pool or ping pong game against him, he was a natural. In 1973 four of us decided to go to Watkins Glen, our smiles never left our faces. When it was time to leave Richie disagreed, he told us he’d drive first to head home but instead of taking the right out of the venue to go home he went left for a three hour scenic ride - the wrong way. Richie was a character, a good friend to many. I’m sure this morning he’s enjoying a hot cup of coffee with Marsha and making plans to go fishing. Rest in peace my friend.
