Obituary of Paul Keating

Paul J. Keating of Burlington, formerly of Woburn, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington on Friday, November 4, 2011. He was 83 years old. Paul was born in Woburn, the son of the late Jeremiah and Sarah Keating. He grew up in the South End of Woburn and was a graduate of Woburn High School. He served in the Marine Corps for almost 6 years serving in both WW II and the Korean Wars. At the time of his discharge he held the rank of Sergeant. He continued his support for the Marines through his involvement in the Marine Corp League. As a Marine Corp League member, Paul participated in countless ceremonies, holiday events, parades, and acts of charitable giving. He married Shirley Hamilton in1951 and they made their home in Winchester for a time before settling in Burlington 46 years ago. He started his career working with Sylvania. He then spent 35 years working at GTE as an engineering technician and then ended his career as a supervisor at Alpha Electronics. Paul was a talented singer. He was a member of the Mishawum Choral Society and the Sounds of Concord Barber Shop Quartet. He was a member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America. He performed in concerts and competitions locally and nationally. His music and performing were a special part of his life and brighten the days of those he entertained. Paul had other interests outside of music. He was a coach for Burlington Little League for a number a years. He enjoyed golfing. He played football in High School and played hockey, softball, and bowled with his coworkers and friends. He enjoyed working on scale models. Paul brightened the lives of countless individuals through his music, community service, and service to his country. He was the beloved husband for 60 years of Shirley I (Hamilton) Keating. He was the proud father of Cindy McInnis & her husband John of Francestown, NH, Paul Keating, Jr .of Burlington, and Alan Keating of Merrimac, MA. He was the grandfather of Justin McInnis. He was the brother of Geraldine Ellis of Woburn, the late Alice Nelson, Mildred McDermott, Josie Feeney, William, Charles, and Bernard Keating. A graveside service will be held at Pine Haven cemetery, Bedford St., Burlington on Saturday, November 12 at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Paul’s name may be made to the Marine Corps.
