Obituary of Scott D. MacKenzie

Scott D. MacKenzie, 53 years of age, of Tewksbury ,formerly of Burlington, class of 1978 Burlington High, passed away on December 2, 2014 under Hospice Care at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, after a five year battle with lung cancer. Scott is married to Lynn (Griffin) Sousa MacKenzie. He is the father of Scott D. MacKenzie and Danielle M. McKenney both of Billerica. He is the stepfather of Robert Sousa and Andrea Sousa of Tewksbury. Scott is also survived by his father, Ronald MacKenzie, former Senator and his fiancée Anne Murray of Burlington and his brother-in-law and dear friend, Michael Joyce. Scott lost his mother, Janet MacKenzie, in 2006 and his sister, Jody Joyce, in 2012 both from lung cancer. Many will remember the great Burlington High School hockey teams that Scott starred on, particularly his junior year where the Burlington Red Devils beat Matignon High School at the Boston Garden, winning the Eastern Massachusetts State Tourney. It was the first time a public school beat a Catholic School at that level of tournament. Scott received the prestigious Seventh Player Award for All-Around Player during the tournament. Scott also played baseball for Burlington High School. He was inducted into the Burlington High School Hall of Fame for Hockey. Scott enjoyed spending time with his family and friends most. He valued the strength and support that they gave him. He loved to go fishing - especially bringing along his beloved dog, Danica. He also enjoyed golfing with his dad Ron, his son Scott and his cousin David MacKenzie. He loved boating with his brother-in-law Michael. Scott greatly appreciated the outpouring of love, best wishes and prayers from friends, classmates, and townspeople during his difficult time. Family and friends are respectfully invited to visiting hours at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington, (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on December 5 from 4:00-8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 6 Lexington Street, Burlington at 10:00 AM on December 6th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Care Hospice or The Scott MacKenzie Scholarship Fund to a Burlington High School Student, c/o Northern Bank and Trust, 13 Center Street, Burlington, MA 01803.
