Obituary of Peter Francis O'Toole
Peter Francis O’Toole, a prominent member of the Plumbers and Gasfitters Union, Local 12, passed away after a battle with Cancer on Sunday morning, January 25, 2015. He was 75 years old.
Peter was a member of the Plumbing and Gasfitters Union for over 40 years. He started as an apprentice plumber and with hard work rose to one of the top foreman in the Union. He ran many of the biggest projects in Boston including hospitals, the John Hancock Tower, and Hewlett Packard. He had a great reputation within the industry. He was honest and straight forward with those he worked with. He expected a lot, but also gave a lot to those who worked under him. His coworkers came up with a saying when they described Peter; “Work like a Fool for Peter O’Toole”. Peter left his mark on many grand buildings in Boston and his work ethic and workmanship was well remembered by his coworkers. Peter was so proud of his family. He adored his wife Jean Marie and her passing in 2012 left an emptiness in his heart that could never be replaced. He was a supportive and caring father. He was proud to see his son follow his footsteps in the plumbing trade and relished the opportunity to coach Babe Ruth Baseball together. As his children played sports; Peter immersed himself in Pop Warner Football and Babe Ruth Baseball. He served as equipment manager and later President for both sports. Peter greatest joy was being a “Papa” to his 7 grandchildren. He cherished the time spent with the grandkids and was always in the stands or supporting them in football, swimming, baseball, cheerleading, soccer, basketball, dance and wrestling. He was their number one fan. His grandkids could easily figure out where “Papa” was at their games from his energetic and constant cheers and words of encouragement. He loved his family and cherished the bond he had with each one in his special way.
Peter was the devoted husband of the late Jean Marie (Walker) O’Toole. He was the loving father of Brian O’Toole, Kelley Pena & her husband Holvin, and Keri Noke & her husband Kevin all of Burlington. Brother of Brian of NV, Lawrence of AL, and Terrance of CA, the late Dermott, Kevin & his surviving wife Mary of Dorchester, Stephen & his surviving wife Pat of Billerica, Maureen, and Paul. Proud grandfather of Delaney & Madison O’Toole, Khyle & Alyvia Pena, and Aidan, Ronan, & Jillian Noke.
Also survived by many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. A visitation will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Thursday, Jan. 29 from 10 -11:30 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at Noon.
