Obituary of Thomas DiPerna

Thomas C. DiPerna, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away at The Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading after a brief battle with cancer. The beloved husband of 50 years of Regina “Jean” (Alfeiri) he was 77 years old. Tom was born, raised and educated in Somerville. He was one of 5 children born to the late Costanzo and Emma DiPerna. Tom was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving his country in the United States Army. He was recipient of the Good Conduct Medal. After leaving the Army in 1959 and returning home he met the “girl next door”. Jean and Tom had just celebrated 50 years of marriage this past September with their children throwing them a celebration with family and friends at the Crestview in Woburn Tom had a successful career as a Chemist. He worked at W.R Grace in Lexington for over 40 years and then the last ten years of his career at Polyfibron Technologies in Billerica. While Tom was working at W. R. Grace he went to school evenings at Northeastern University where he received his Bachelor Degree. Tom enjoyed oil painting and classical music. He looked forward to the summers when he would plant his vegetable garden which he took great pride in. Tom as was an avid Boston sports his favorite being the Celtics and Red Sox. Tom and Jean looked forward to their annual Fall trip to Snowy Owl Inn in Waterville, New Hampshire which was a trip they took together for many years. Tom was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Tom was the beloved husband of 50 years of Regina “Jean” (Alfeiri). He was the loving father of Mark of Woburn and Sharon DiPerna-Bouffard & her spouse Renee Bouffard of Billerica. Brother of the late Christopher DiPerna, Sylvia Kezima, Mary Coppola & Josephine Troiano. Devoted grandfather of Sarah Bouffard. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday, January 3 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Monday from 3-7 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Memorials in Tom’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 311 Arsenal St., Waltham, MA 02472 or the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
