Obituary of Gloria Eunice Addison
Gloria spent her early years residing in Hull, MA with her parents, Gweneth and Raymond Gunnerson. After graduating from Hingham High school, she followed her dream and worked many jobs to be able to attend Nursing School and train at Mass General Hospital.
While in nursing school, she met and married Bruce Addison. He was drafted into the army, and assigned to a base in Fairbanks Alaska. Wanting to be with her new husband, Gloria drove from Somerville MA to Alaska with 2 other nurses. Fifteen days later they arrived in Alaska, when she got a job in a local hospital. Her daughter Kim was born there.
Post army, Gloria and Bruce moved back to Somerville, where their son Bruce Wayne was born. They purchased their first house in Hull, where the kids were raised. Gloria continued to work as a nurse at nursing homes on the South Shore. She also had a business buying and selling antiques in Hull at Ye Olde Goode Flea Market with some of her good friends. Gloria always had a good eye for antiques!
When Bruce landed a job at Trans World Airlines, Gloria became a globe trotter and traveled all over the world visiting several states, tropical islands and many parts of Europe. Gloria loved traveling and making new friends.
In the mid 1980’s the family relocated to Burlington, MA. Gloria found a new outlet for her love of antiques and joined the International Nippon Collectors Club – INCC. She attended over 27 conventions with members from all over the world. Gloria loved to crochet, and she made an afghan each ear that was raffled off at the conventions. These handmade crafts were a coveted prize!
When her son Bruce Wayne moved to Las Vegas to pursue his dream job, Gloria dropped everything to help him move and made sure he was in a nice apartment with food in the fridge – that was the kind of mother she was.
Gloria was a trooper right until the end. Right before she went in for this final surgery, her last thought was of her husband Bruce. She knew this last fight was a risk and told Kim that she was so worried about what would happen to dad.
She was a medical miracle and a crusty woman. From Bruce to Gloria:
I love you so very much my darling and thank you for a wonderful life together. I was so lucky to have spent 57 years together with you. I believe we will meet again someday, and what a wonderful day that will be. I will not say goodbye, just will say – see you later kiddo.
Gloria was the beloved wife of wife of Bruce P. Addison. She was the loving mother Kim Addison & her fiancé Stephen LaFrance of Malden and the late Bruce Wayne Addison.
