Obituary of Pauline Glasser
Pauline “Polly” Glasser, a woman with a kind heart and endless friends, passed away after a short illness on Friday afternoon, July 31, 2015. Polly was born and raised in Methuen. She was the daughter of Lebanon immigrants, the late George and Annessey Haddad. She was a graduate of Methuen High School and Boston University. She was a proud member of the Phi Gamma Nu Sorority at Boston University. She started her career at the radio station WORL in Boston. She worked as the promotional director and also wrote advertising material. It was at WORL that she met Donald Glasser, a sound engineer and D.J. They were married in 1958 and settled in Burlington to start a family. Polly had three children and continued her career at Harvard Business School where she worked for over 25 years as a Senior Manuscript Editor. She loved her career and her many coworkers.
Polly had a sweet, kind, and bubbly demeanor that made making new friends and acquaintances effortless. She would talk to everyone and made everyone feel special and loved. She had the magical gift of words and often wrote poems for family and friends. She could whirl up a poem to share a special occasion, event, or simply as a thank you. Polly loved going out to eat and if she enjoyed the service, she would include a personal poem along with her tip, which was always a hit. She had many favorite restaurants where she loved the staff as much as the food. At Franco’s By the Sea, the owner’s loved Polly and her husband Don so much that they named a menu item after them, Polly and Don’s Favorite Brochette. She and Don loved going to Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod, Newport, and Boston on a regular basis visiting their favorite restaurants. She continued that tradition with her daughter Laurie after Don’s passing. They were together in Martha’s Vineyard on vacation when Polly took ill. At home in Burlington, she had her Saturday routine which was Saturday Vigil Mass at St. Margaret’s Church followed by a martini and dinner at Café Escadrille or the 99. Along with her poetry, Polly was an avid reader. She was well-versed in politics, history, and world events, which gave her the ability to discuss whatever topic that interested those in her company. She will always be remembered for her faith, warmth, and kindness she shared with her family and all those she touched in her life.
Polly was the loving wife of the late Donald F. Glasser. She was the loving and caring mother of Ken Glasser & his wife Paulette of Billerica, Beverly Koehler & her husband Matt of Nashua, NH, , and Laurie Glasser of Burlington. She was the proud grandmother of Darrien, Nicholas, & Malerie Glasser of Billerica and David Koehler of Nashua, NH. Also survived by Polly’s loving husband’s sister, Cynthia Bauman of Hingham. She was predeceased by her siblings; James, Rose, and Faye Haddad, and Nellie Shamon. Polly is also survived by many loving family members and friends.
